Accessibility Statement

ApplianceWatchDog is meant to be usable by everyone — including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or magnification. A comparison site that hides its tables from assistive technology isn't an honest one.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Accessibility is part of our build and review process, not a bolt-on: new templates and interactive components are checked against WCAG 2.1 AA before launch, and existing pages are re-checked as part of our quarterly content review.

• Structure: semantic HTML with a logical heading order, landmarks, and a "skip to content" link on every page.
• Keyboard: all navigation, comparison tables, calculators, quizzes, forms, and cookie controls are operable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and no keyboard traps.
• Tables: comparison tables use proper headers and captions; sortable controls announce state changes; mobile card views preserve reading order.
• Interactive tools: calculators and the triage quiz have programmatic labels, announced results (ARIA live regions), and error messages tied to their fields; nothing depends on hover alone.
• Contrast and text: color-contrast ratios meet AA minimums; color is never the only carrier of meaning (scores and badges pair color with text); text resizes to 200% without loss of content; the site respects reduced-motion preferences.
• Media and images: informative images carry alt text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive tech; any video content is captioned.
• Forms and email: newsletter and contact forms have visible labels, clear error handling, and no time limits.
• PDFs: downloadable resources (like our lifespan cheat sheet) are published as tagged, accessible PDFs; if you receive one that isn't, tell us and we'll provide an accessible version.

We link out to third-party sites (warranty providers, retailers, review platforms) whose accessibility we don't control. Some embedded third-party widgets (e.g., consent tooling, affiliate partner content) may not fully conform; we raise issues with those vendors and prefer conformant alternatives where they exist.

Our approach combines automated checks (e.g., axe-type tooling in the build pipeline) with manual testing: keyboard-only passes, screen-reader passes (NVDA and VoiceOver), zoom/reflow checks at 200–400%, and contrast verification.

Include the page URL and the technology you were using. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 2 business days and to fix confirmed AA-conformance issues promptly, with priority over routine site work. If you need any content from this site in an alternative format, ask — we'll provide it.
