Privacy Policy

Updated August 2026

Effective date: August 1, 2026 · Last updated: August 1, 2026

This policy explains what appliancewatchdog.com (operated by Outpace Performance Ltd, registered in England and Wales) collects about you, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have — including your California rights and how to opt out of "sharing" for advertising purposes.

1. What we collect

  • You give us: email address (newsletter signup), and anything you include in contact-form messages or emails (name, message content).
  • Collected automatically: device and usage data via cookies and similar technologies — IP address, browser/device type, pages viewed, referring URL, approximate location, and interactions (e.g., which comparison links are clicked). See the cookie table below.
  • From partners: affiliate networks may confirm to us, in aggregate or pseudonymous form, that a click from our site led to a sale (so we get paid). We do not receive your name, contact details, or payment information from these confirmations.
  • We do not collect: payment card data (we sell nothing directly), government IDs, or precise geolocation. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16; the Site is not directed at children.

2. Why we use it

To operate and improve the Site; to send the newsletter you asked for (double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe); to answer your messages; to measure content performance (analytics); to earn affiliate commissions that fund the Site; to detect abuse; and to meet legal obligations.

4. Who we share data with (third parties)

  • Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics (Google LLC, US).
  • Affiliate networks — CJ Affiliate, Impact, FlexOffers, and partner-run programs, for click attribution when you follow a /go/ link.
  • Email service provider — stores the newsletter list and sends The Fix on our behalf.
  • Form provider — when you submit a form on the Site (newsletter signup, contact message, reader rating), the provider that receives, stores, and forwards that submission to us, bound to use it only for that purpose.
  • Hosting/CDN and security vendors — the providers that host, deliver, and protect the Site, bound to use data only to provide those services.
  • Authorities/advisers — if legally required, or in a business transfer with equivalent protections.

We never sell your email address or contact details. However, under California law, allowing third-party advertising/attribution cookies can count as "sharing" (and in some readings "selling") personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We treat it as such and give you the opt-out below.

5. Your California rights (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents may, without discrimination for exercising rights:

  • Know/Access — request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold, sources, purposes, and recipients.
  • Delete — request deletion (subject to legal exceptions).
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of Sale/Sharing — direct us not to sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Limit sensitive data use — we don't collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA, so there's nothing to limit.

How to exercise them: use our [Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information] link (Site footer —), or use /contact and mark your message "Privacy request". We verify requests (typically by confirming control of the email address), respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days with notice), and accept authorized-agent requests as the CPRA provides.

Categories disclosed (preceding 12 months): identifiers (IP, email) and internet activity (browsing/click data) — collected for the purposes in Section 2; disclosed to the service providers listed in Section 4; "shared" for cross-context behavioral advertising only via the attribution cookies described above, unless you opt out. We apply the same core rights to residents of other states with comparable laws (e.g., CO, CT, VA, UT) and honor UK/EU GDPR rights where applicable, including for data transferred to our UK operator under appropriate safeguards.

6. Retention

Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, then suppressed/deleted per ESP practice. Contact messages: up to 24 months. Analytics: up to 24 months. Unconfirmed newsletter signups: deleted within 30 days.

7. Security

HTTPS everywhere, access controls on the small set of systems that hold personal data, and reputable processors under data-processing agreements. No system is perfectly secure; we'll notify you and regulators of any qualifying breach as required by law.

8. International transfers

We're a UK-based operator serving US readers; data may be processed in the US and UK. Transfers use recognized safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses / UK addendum) where required.
